A new curriculum for professional driver retraining has been approved and was published on February 18, 2025.
Main changes:
- Courses are now divided into three parts; Environment – Laws and Regulations & Safety, and now at least one course from each part must be taken. The other two are optional and can be from any part
- There is no longer a distinction between core, elective core, and elective courses.
- Now, it is mandatory that one of the five courses drivers take includes a practical component, such as a driving safety course, practical eco-driving course, winter driving course, practical first aid, and so on.
Drivers who have completed five courses under the old system have until June 1, 2025, to renew their driver’s license with code 95 at the district commissioner’s office.
Please note that those who have already completed practical courses meet the requirements set for the practical component.
Drivers can check the status of their courses at https://askur.samgongustofa.is
Please note that if login fails, it is likely that no courses are valid.
